In a dawn attack, November 7, 1811, at Tippecanoe Creek, Harrison and his 800 men were surprised by Indians under the command of the Prophet. In spite of sixty-one dead and one hundred twenty-seven wounded, the Americans managed to drive off the Indians and destroy the deserted Prophet's town. Harrison was both praised and condemed for his action at Tippecanoe.
