William Henry Harrison entered Hampden-Sydney
College in 1787. He attended Hampden-Sydney for
three years and from there enrolled at the University
of Pennsylvania to study medicine in Philadelphia
in 1790 and 1791. After his father's death in 1791
he decided to make the military his career. On
August 16, 1791 Harrison was commissioned an
ensign in the First Regiment of Infantry.
